LAYLA HAWI
interior design, scenography

Her scenography and visual art journey started as she intends to find a medium to transmit musical or theatrical experiences based on visual assessments, as she has been recently finding difficulty into comprehending theatrical plays due to her partial hearing loss. With all the graphic methods it is becoming easier to unlock and transmit the sense of space and depth with all of its charm making it accessible to anyone.
Layla graduated from the Université Saint Esprit Kaslik in 2015, holding a Master’s degree in interior architecture. She worked at Rana Jabbour architects, an interior design company for five years on projects inside and outside Lebanon. She worked on several projects, some as project coordinator, on design, execution, and follow ups. Her Interest in theatre and music led her to drift into scenography and visual arts.
In 2016 she attended a two semesters theater workshop with exercises and research with a public performance inspired by Augusto Boal in USEK.
As she has been sketching and experimenting on music, Layla got more interested into visually stimulating experiences. She started her journey learning and practicing animation, Vjing and 3D mapping. In 2018 she performed a Vjing set with Marc ERNEST on piano and Chantal MAILHAC on vocals. In 2019 she worked on 3D mapping a statue for Rima KADDISSI’s “persona from the future” installation, part of MACAM’s biennale of contemporary art in 2019. She accomplished a 10 days digital Scenography workshop with Christopher KONDEK curated by YAZAN (Beirut-based cultural association). in 2020, Yazan gave her as well a chance to attend a scenography workshop with Marc Lainé (director of the National Theatre of Valence) and Stefan Zimmerli (France) who had given a workshop around Les Justes by Camus, in which her project concept was selected for the actual play production (Summer 2021).Layla is currently working on getting her second Master’s degree from Alba (Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts) in 2D/3D animation.
